Carpenters’ Craft Competition 2013
The Master of the Company Martin Mosley presented the prize to the winner in the Under 20 section, Samuel Maclean from Inverness College. Samuel was runner-up in the 2011 competition and has also achieved the distinction of winning this section in 2012.
In the Over 20 Section Emma Leslie from the Building Crafts College was this year’s winner, the first time a female entrant has won and the organisers are keen to see more women entering future competitions.
The competition piece this year was a hanging wall sign and Competition Manager Chris Higley was pleased with the ‘very good number of entrants from areas all over the United Kingdom’ and noted that ‘the models for the final judging were of a high standard. The competition aims to motivate and encourage students to achieve excellence in the craft and of course to reward all the hard work carried out by them and the many dedicated tutors involved.’
The Carpenters’ Craft Competition was first held in 1972 and from the outset was sponsored by the Carpenters’ Company. It has since recognised and showcased some of the most talented young woodworkers in the country, many of whom have gone on to highly successful careers working in their chosen vocation.
